(Co-sponsored by NSF EarthCube; Cyber4Paleo RCN; iDigBio; Paleobiology Database; Neotoma Paleoecology Database; Society for Sedimentary Geology; Paleontological Society; GSA; STEPPE) DATE: Tuesday, October 21, 2014 TIME: 2-5pm LOCATION: Hyatt Regency, English Bay Come learn how to find, visualize, and obtain paleobiological and paleoecological data from key cyberinfrastructure resources in paleobiology and paleoecology: Neotoma Paleoecology Database, iDigBio, and Paleobiology Database. See hands-on demonstrations and ask questions. ***Bring your laptops!*** Neotoma Paleoecology Database (Presenter: Jack Williams, University of Wisconsin)
http://www.neotomadb.org/ Neotoma Paleoecology Database and Community is an online hub for paleoecological and paleoenvironmental data. Its purpose is to facilitate studies of species and ecosystem responses to environmental change from the Recent to the Late Neogene, to enable joint analyses of multiple paleoecological and paleoenvironmental proxies, and to provide the historical context for contemporary biodiversity dynamics. iDigBio (Presenter: Gil Nelson, Florida State University) https://www.idigbio.org/ Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) is NSF's national resource for facilitating and enabling the digitization of biological and paleobiological collection objects in non-federal, U.S. biodiversity collections. Through its portal it makes available data and images for millions of biological specimens in electronic format for the research community, government agencies, students, educators, and the general public. Paleobiology Database (Presenter: Mark D. Uhen, George Mason University) http://paleobiodb.org Paleobiology Database's (PBDB) purpose is to provide global, collection-based occurrence and taxonomic data for organisms of all geological ages, as well as data services to allow easy access to data for independent development of analytical tools, visualization software, and applications of all types.
